Hi, I’m Sarah!
For as long as I can remember, I have always loved to write. Somewhere during my late teens and early twenties, I lost my way and forgot about writing for the mere purpose of writing. Honestly, it was probably due to all the
partying academic reading and writing I was doing. Luckily, I settled down, married my best friend and found a new passion – travel. This blog is the combination of an old love of writing and a new love of traveling the world. What better way than a blog to bring you all along for the ride!
I find planning trips to be only slightly less fun and interesting than actually going on them. Some people call it OCD, I call it preparing to have fun! How can I make the most of a short time in a city without knowing all the amazing things it has to offer. I need a plan! Here at Sarah Someplace you will find the labor of all that trip planning love. I provide readers a detailed and inside look at each place I visit after I’ve tried and tested it. The off the beaten path restaurants, the must do tours, the best places to stay, local shopping and, my favorite, what to eat – I cover it all!
Most, but not all, of my travel is done with my better half and husband, Colin. He isn’t as much of a planner as I am. His two favorite motto’s in life are “You can’t take it with you” and “Surprise me.” Mine are more like “Save, save, save” and “Plan, plan, plan.” Well, you know what they say about opposites! He pushes me out of my comfort zone – in a good way. Readers will find the Yin and Yang of these two different worldviews on Sarah Someplace.
Here is a little bit more about what you will find on Sarah Someplace:
Real people, doing real things.
I didn’t quit my job and set out on an adventure around the world. I am your average 30 something year old trying to see and do as much as I can while I am still young and able. In fact, I happen to like the stability of owning a home, coming home to my dog and enjoy my job very much (gasp!). Colin and I are just your average married couple with a mortgage, bills and even some debt. The trips I go on are the result of saving money and vacation days in different ways throughout the year. They are also the accumulation of a lot of research and planning for something I am passionate about doing. Sarah Someplace aims to help you make the very most of your limited time traveling by showing you unique, affordable experiences throughout the world.
Travel Tips for Adults.
I explore plenty of kid-friendly places (like Disneyworld), but the traveling I do is without kids. I don’t have children, and none of the travel I do involves packing toys or diaper bags. You are sure to find lots of useful information if you do travel with children, but that won’t be a focus here.
Yes, I have limited vacation days. But I still like to do more than skim the surface of a location. I also don’t like unpacking my bags in a new place every single night. Truth be told, as much as I love to travel, I am a homebody at heart. I have done some grueling travel schedules and gotten a lot of out them, and I may do more in the future, but my preferred method of travel is to stay in one location for at least a few nights, taking in all it has to offer and getting off the beaten path. The benefit to this is that I can extensively cover a location I travel to more in-depth.
I hope you will take a look around to learn more!
